Julia Kristeller

Julia Kristeller holds a Master’s in Creative Arts in Learning, and is an ordained Interfaith Minister with a strong background in the Creative Art Therapies. She has over 30 years experience in the creative arts, counseling, education, professional development, spiritual leadership, parenting support, community outreach, publishing, and consulting. Julia has served as a consultant and program facilitator for Sesame Workshop, Trinity Church and Preschool, UNICEF, Cross-Cultural International Institute, JMH Communications, Many Hands Media, Cabrini Medical Center Hospice, Beth Israel’s Jacob Perlow Hospice, and the Othmer Cancer Center at Long Island College Hospital. She is the founder of Ovations!, a consulting firm that helps people access their creativity and humanity and the humanity of those they work with and serve.

Julia has both undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in child development, art and expressive therapy, creative curriculum, and program planning and has presented at conferences nationally and internationally. She worked at the School of Visual Arts, Art Therapy Department, for two years creating innovative special projects and programs in art therapy throughout the city as well as helping to develop their Masters program, and has worked therapeutically with patients, staff and families using the creative arts in hospice and hospitals. Julia has also been a director of programs for parents and children, including designing and developing on-site child-care programs in office buildings and hospital sites, and is a former Editor-in-Chief of Scholastic’s Early Childhood professional and parenting magazines and books. She has been on the Board of Directors of the Society for the Arts and Healthcare and the North Brooklyn YMCA and is an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn. Her diverse background has given her unique insights into human and spiritual development in educational, non-profit, healthcare, religious, academic, community, and corporate settings.

Julia’s work at PSI has included community outreach to provide creative support services to women and children in the Arab community in Brooklyn, post 911 support for case-workers and other professionals, and other special support services using creativity and the arts. She is now also offering spiritual and pre-marital counseling as well as groups and workshops.

Premarital Counseling

As an Interfaith Minister with a background in creative arts therapies, Rev. Julia Kristeller offers couples from all backgrounds creative ways to explore and share their joys and concerns about their upcoming marriage. Sessions are structured to serve as a mirror for the strengths and challenges that each individual and the couple brings, in terms of family background, culture, finances, social and spiritual life, intimacy, and planning their future lives and families together. She is committed to helping couples communicate honesty with one another about possibilities, hopes, needs, fears, and dreams, as well as potential problems. She facilitates their use of active listening, creative exercises, and journaling, within and beyond sessions, so they can enter into their marriage with strengthened confidence in the long term success of their union, and with some new ways to look at and nurture their relationship.

Spiritual Counseling

Julia Kristeller is available to help individuals and couples explore their spiritual growth and challenges and life transition from a spiritual and developmental perspective.. As an Interfaith Minister she has knowledge of and is sensitive to diverse faith traditions and can also support spiritual concerns and yearnings of those who don’t belong or adhere to any traditional faith. Rev. Kristeller has a strong background working with end of life, loss and bereavement, serious illness, children and families, and general issues of coping with stress, balancing work and family, life transitions, and self-care and wellness.
